Agribusiness

There is growing evidence that when you invest in young people, their capacity and motivation to produce food profitably and sustainably increases. Thus, the need to unlock the youth in small-scale farming to approach agriculture as a business. Agriculture is the backbone of Kenya’s economy and central to the Government of Kenya’s development strategy with 70 percent of Kenyans making a living through agriculture. Despite this, stagnating agricultural productivity and continuous population growth pose critical challenges to food security and agricultural markets across the country. This calls for agriculture to be given utmost importance and that is where Agribusiness comes in.

Ending global hunger is one of the greatest challenges and opportunities of our time and JCO is working to solve it through partnerships and innovations. Our model is born from an understanding that business as usual is not going to create the sustainable, long-term change needed to end chronic hunger and poverty. Therefore, equipping the youth in small-scale farming with the tools, skills, resources, and connections needed to feed their households and the community. We are addressing the root causes of poverty and hunger and creating growth and sustainable agricultural economies into healthy ones that build a more stable world.

Small Scale Farmer Challenges

  • Where can I find trustworthy knowledge and information about my farming activities?
  • Where can I find the best products and farming inputs and buy them at a fair price?
  • Where can I find the good market for my products?
  • How can I scale my farming activities and grow as a business?

Small-scale farmers feed the world, they’re consumers and producers, and they drive one of the most important industries world-wide – yet very little effort is put in place to addresses the challenges they face head on. We know the opportunity is huge and we want the young people to exploit it. JCO aims to expand economic opportunities for young farmers and entrepreneurs, strengthen household, community and market resilience to shocks of food insecurity and diversify agricultural production.

Let’s work together in reshaping our community for a better living.
